(AKA Jessica Symonds)
South London born and bred, Jessica grew up in a lively household in Clapham North. A self-confessed wild-child; youth spent pounding the pavements and jamming on walls near her local estate has left her with a million stories to tell. It’s through her singing and song writing that Jessica intends to tell those stories.
With powerful smoky vocals Jessica has always been influenced by the soul greats such as Billie Holiday and Etta James, as well as the more contemporary Amy Winehouse and Plan B. For her it is their prowess in painting a picture along with their raw emotional vocals that draw her in. This sense of storytelling is what Jessica is determined to achieve in her own work.
Jessica is credited on Rudimental’s number 1 selling album ‘Home’, as a co-writer on the track ‘More Than Anything’ featuring Emeli Sande. She has also worked with other established artists including, The Wideboys, Show n Prove and Kort (Defected Records).
Performing live is Jessica’s main passion; she thrives off the buzz of being stood on stage. Venues and events that she has performed at include; a guest performance at The Apollo Theatre (New York), The O2 Indigo, Ronnie Scotts, Edinburgh Festival, Somerset House, I Luv Live, LoveDough and The Hackney Weekender. She has sang along side artists such as Katy B, Leona Lewis, Ghetts, Stooshe, Chipmunk, and Ms. Dynamite. For Jessica live performance plays an integral role in her growing as an artist and honing her craft. She has been described as an ‘edgy performer bringing a sexy mix of rock and soul’ (I Luv Live).
In the last year Jessica has begun a new venture toward a fresh sound, integrating dark electronic beats with soulful melodies. Mash ups of styles intrigues her, especially when old meets new. Keep an eye out for the unveiling of this project.
